Great Orthodox Synagogue

One of the most richly decorated synagogues of the old monarchy

Sinagoga Mare Ortodoxă

Built in 1890 to plans by Nándor Bach, the Great Orthodox Synagogue is considered one of the most richly decorated synagogues of the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy, with seats for 600 men and 450 women. Restored and reinaugurated in 2018, it stands at the heart of what became the Oradea ghetto in 1944, with a Holocaust memorial in its courtyard.
